At Home Appeal

Established in the late 1980s the “At Home Appeal” is allocated each year to a New Zealand National organisation. Branches are invited, through their diocesan Presidents, to suggest a recipient.

Recent Recipients of the At Home Appeal have been:

In addition to raising funds the “At Home Appeal” gives members the opportunity to educate themselves and the wider Church community on issues that directly affect New Zealanders.  The 2011 focus on ECPAT NZ Child Alert challenged members to face an evil in our society of which the majority have had no direct experience.  The 2012 focus on the children’s charity KidsCan raised awareness of the needs of children in the wider community.  Many members have continued to support KidsCan by joining the campaigns to knit beanies, scarves and slippers for the children in the low-decile schools.

The most recent recipient (2013) of the Mission At Home Appeal was the NZ Gynaecological Cancer Foundation.  In addition to the fundraising activities, members around New Zealand took the opportunity to educate themselves in the symptoms and treatments of these types of cancer.

In 2014  Age Concern – Elder Abuse will be the focus of CWLNZ membership’s fundraising efforts.
