Our Mission to Ourselves

Pope Francis tells us that friendship “is one of life’s gifts and a grace from God. Faithful friends, who stand at our side in times of difficulty, are a reflection of the Lord’s love, His gentle and consoling presence in our lives.” Twitter 30 Jul 2020.

The Catholic Women’s League is a place to forge friendships. A place to grow in faith, to have fun and face the world with gratitude and love.

Mission at Home Appeal

Annually, CWANLZ selects a non-government funded charitable organisation in New Zealand as the focus of their fundraising efforts. Branches are encouraged to host speakers from the chosen organization at their meetings, fostering awareness and understanding.

This year, our domestic appeal centers on supporting Diabetes NZ, particularly their youth camps. Your generous support is warmly welcomed. Feel free to reach out to any CWL branch for more information.

Youth and Whanau Camps Providing support for children and their families navigating the challenges of diabetes is crucial. Joining our camps offers a valuable opportunity to connect with others, form new friendships, establish support networks, and share and learn together on this journey.

THE CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE
Mission in Pacific

Branches of the Catholic Women's League respond compassionately to diverse needs in the South West Pacific. Their impactful initiatives range from replacing household linen after Fiji's flooding to funding the restoration of a cyclone-damaged water treatment plant in Vanuatu. These efforts, driven by a desire to witness communities flourishing, extend beyond immediate needs to address climate change's adverse effects on vulnerable families.

Collaborating with mission communities, often comprising dedicated religious sisters or brothers involved in education, community welfare, and healthcare, the League tailors its support to unique challenges. In the face of the volcanic eruption on Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai, the league initiated the "Fill the Drums for Tonga" campaign. Members in Upper Hutt responded generously, exceeding expectations by filling two 44-gallon drums with essential goods valued at $1,700. The recipients, specific families in Tonga, experienced both the immediate relief and the warmth of solidarity.

The League invites others to join in their commitment to fostering flourishing communities in the South West Pacific, emphasising a shared responsibility and collective effort toward positive change.

THE CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE
Mission in the Community

Since its inception, the Bishops of Aotearoa, New Zealand have entrusted the CWL with the vital mission of supporting both the Māori Mission and the Church in the South-West Pacific. This dual mission, both at home and in the Pacific, has consistently stood as the primary focus for fundraising efforts. Branches and regions play a crucial role in this collective effort, each being assigned specific communities for support through prayer, correspondence, and fundraising initiatives.

At the helm of this compassionate outreach is the National Mission Secretary, responsible for overseeing the allocation of mission communities. Their role is pivotal in ensuring that the League's support is distributed widely and equitably among the designated communities.

The mission communities currently supported by branches of the CWLANZ encompass Nauru, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, and Tonga. Through the dedicated efforts of CWL members nationwide, these communities receive not only financial support but also the invaluable power of prayer and heartfelt letters, fostering a bond that transcends geographical boundaries.

Palestine

This initiative encourages us to endure with love despite challenges and oppression. Crafted by a coalition of ecumenical Christian Palestinian women, the program responds to Ephesians 4:1-7. Together, we reflected on this theme within the context of our struggles as Palestinian Christian women. Our aspiration is to inspire women globally to stand together with love amid turbulent times.
