Hamilton Conference

Hamilton Diocese

Although branches have existed in our area for much longer, the Catholic Women’s League of the Hamilton Diocese gained its unique identity when the Diocese was formed in 1980.  With 20 branches across such a wide area the Diocese is divided into 4 regions – North, South, Central and East – and regional representatives serve on the Diocesan Council.  Regional Days are rotated around the branches and the regional reps visit all branches at least once a year.  Our chaplain attends Council meetings when possible and also joins us at the Regional Days; his spiritual guidance is highly valued.

The Council meets monthly at the central point Matamata.  Regional Days are rotated around the branches giving all members the opportunity to demonstrate hospitality and showcase  individual branch strengths.  The annual conference is rotated around the regions.

We are fortunate to have the Tyburn Monastery situated at Ngakuru, close to Rotorua, and we have an excellent relationship with the sisters – they give us spiritual support and we assist with material support.

We support mission communities in the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Western Samoa, and Tonga as well as our own parishes, schools, colleges and seminarians.

Members are involved in all aspects of the League, living out their commitment of “Faith and Service” both within their parishes and in the wider community.
