WELLINGTON ARCHDIOCESE

Wellington Archdiocese at the end of 2006, has 19 branches and 576 members, with 11 Long Leaguers.

Our Mission Stations are mainly in the Pacific Island - Fiji, Samoa, Tokelaus, Tonga, Vanuatu and Tokelaus. They receive support with medical supplies, school equipment and monetary donations. Branches are in regular touch with their priests/sisters in charge and are remembered in members’ prayers. Members participate fully in the World Day of Prayer and Catholic Women’s League is affiliated to other women’s organisations sharing in their social gatherings and special speakers.

Over the years, members have represented League on various bodies in the Archdiocese such as Commission for Justice, Vincentian Home Trust, Education and Bio Ethics at the Archbishop’s request.

It is the work done at Branch level that CWL is best known for, helping at funeral teas - rosters for church cleaning, flower arranging, liturgy, St Vincent de Paul - Parish Council etc. - time consuming tasks but many parishes would find it difficult without our members’ help. The amount of fundraising accomplished by members is outstanding, especially when so many are superannuants.

Council meets bi-monthly and a Conference held yearly. each region meets together once or twice a year to share information and socialise.
