Dunedin Diocese

GREETING FROM STEPHANIE SWANN DUNEDIN DIOCESE:  In March we held a most successful conference in Oamaru. Our guest speaker was Sister Jill McLoughlin, a Josephite based in Christchurch. She spoke to us on our theme “Church: Culture, Identity”. Jill talked about what makes us Catholic (Church), she took us on a personal journey, and encouraged us to have a Sabbath sense in our lives (Culture), and to be faithful to God’s mission (Identity). This was all linked to the beautiful passage from Micah 6:8 – we are called to live and act with justice, to love with tenderness and compassion and to walk humbly (and listen to) our God. Her presentation was interspersed with music and interaction.
All in all a very inspiring presentation, and a lot of food for thought for the Branches to continue working on the theme this year. It was also great to have Maureen Kerr, National Mission Secretary, with us at conference. She reminded us all that the three main priorities for helping the missions have always been and still are praying, writing and giving. Maureen also reminded us of the purpose of the four “recurring” donations that we are asked to give to each year.
It is with great sadness that we hear of the recent death of Noeline De Courcy. She was a very loyal member of CWL and has written some books on the history of CWL. Our sympathy is extended to her family. May she rest in peace.
