RECURRING DONATIONS:

Each year every branch is required to donate to several missions. These are:

• National Mission Project
• Mission Education Fund
• Pacific Seminary Fund
• St Peter Apostle Fund.

As well most branches give to two voluntary missions which are:

• At Home Appeal
• WUCWO

Also Interest from the Golden Jubilee Fund is allocated each year.

NATIONAL MISSION PROJECT:

In 1967 a special appeal was launched to provide a concrete block-making machine for a station on Wallis and Futuna. Later, in 1974, as a result of that project the National Mission Project was established to be used for a special mission purpose in the Pacific Islands each year. The annual recipient is chosen at the February Board Meeting. Branches are invited through their Diocesan Presidents to suggest a project.

MISSION EDUCATION FUND:

This fund was established at the National Conference in 1996 with funds from the previous Video Recording Service. Money from this fund is available for the educational needs of Branch Mission Stations in the Pacific Islands. Applications are made to the National Mission Secretary who co-ordinates and distributes the funds.

In 2004 - 12 branches received $1650.00

In 2005 - 15 branches received $2150.00

In 2006 - 21 branches received $3000.00

PACIFIC SEMINARY FUND:

The Pacific Regional Seminary was opened in Fiji in 1972 for the training of priests from Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. Shortly afterwards the CWL established the Pacific Seminary Fund. The CWL’s aim is to assist all the islands of the Pacific to have priests of their own nationality.

ST PETER APOSTLE FUND:

The Society of St Peter Apostle was founded in 1889 by a single French woman Jeanne Biggard with the support of her Mother Stephanie.

In 1922 the Society became part of the Pontifical Mission Societies which has its headquarters in Rome. The CWL first began giving to this fund in 1960. This was the first of our “Recurring Donations”.

Today the Society -

• supports the education, formation and physical wellbeing of young men and women entering the priesthood and religious life in developing countries through the world;
• builds and maintains seminaries, novitiates and formation programmes.

Recent recipients of money we have contributed are:

2002 Papua-New Guinea, Solomon Islands

2003 India

2004 India

All money was directed to various seminaries in the countries mentioned.

AT HOME APPEAL:

Established in the late 1980s the “At Home Appeal” is allocated each year to a New Zealand National organisation.

Branches are invited, through their diocesan Presidents, to suggest a recipient.

WUCWO (World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations)

The WUCWO World Day of Prayer is celebrated in May each year with either a Mass or Paraliturgy. At this service, members are asked to contribute to a special collection for the international work of WUCWO.

This money is forwarded to the International Board whose headquarters is in Paris.

GOLDEN JUBILEE FUND:

In 1974 at the time of the Silver Jubilee of the CWL a Trust Fund was set up to which all branches contributed. The interest from that fund was distributed each year.

When the 50th Anniversary was celebrated in 1999 further donations were requested and received from each branch and the funds name changed to the “Golden Jubilee Fund”. The interest from that fund is distributed each year at the February Board meeting. All branches have the opportunity to suggest a recipient. This fund is allocated to a local charity.
