NEWS FROM ROUND THE REGIONS  December 2010

  • Branches with Fijian Mission Stations have all appreciated the information they received following Susan Lloyd’s visit to Fiji.  They have commented on the interesting and informative letters they are now receiving.  (Susan’s reports on her visit can be accessed here.)
  • Rotorua Branch sent 438 cartons to their Mission Station in Natovi.
  • South Region Day in Tokoroa was very well attended with a large contingent travelling from Rotorua. Judith Norton of Turangi was returned as Regional Rep.
  • Tauranga were the hosts for the East Region Day. Regional Rep Tini Wetting tendered her resignation and the meeting thanked her for the time she had given to representing their area.
  • Cathedral hosted the North Region Day. Joan Nicholson of Frankton was returned as Regional Rep.

The last Council meeting for 2010 was held at the Tyburn Monastery, Ngakuru, Rotorua.  Members travelled down on Wednesday afternoon with the meeting held on Thursday morning after Mass.  Study was undertaken into the life of Blessed Mary Mc Killop.  A warm welcome was extended to Kris Shaw of Mt Maunganui Branch who has undertaken the role of East Region Rep.  Our Chaplain Monsignor Eggleton also spent time with us.

The year ended on a slightly sad note with the passing of John O’Neil, husband of Pat, former National Social Concerns Convenor, ex Vice-President Hamilton Diocese and long time member of Matamata Branch.
