Hamilton Diocese Conference Report 2011

DIOCESAN CONFERENCE 2011

The Annual Conference for the Hamilton Diocese was hosted by the Morrinsville Branch, the theme being “Step out in Faith”.

Following morning tea and registration, the proceedings began with Mass in St Joseph’s Church where the Conference was officially opened by Diocesan Chaplain Monsignor Frank Eggleton.   Reports were received from the President Maureen Russell, Treasurer Val Townley, WUCWO Convenor Pat Elson,  Social Concerns Colleen Butcher and Missions Convenor Madeline Masters.  During the past year $46,420 in total was given to the Missions.  There was also an address from National President Anne Joyce.   Maureen and Anne thanked members for their support and hard work during the past year.

A very interesting talk was given by International Secretary Kay Blackburn  on her trip to the Holy Land in October last year, where she attended the 100th Anniversary of the founding of WUCWO.

The first day ended with prayer and reflection, followed by dinner and entertainment from the combined choirs of Pakeke Lions and Lyceum Club.

On day two a very informative and eye-opening account of what life can be like for people suffering from dementia , together with family and social concerns involved, was given by Jane Kay from Alzheimers New Zealand Waikato Branch.

To round off the proceedings there was a closing Mass with Dedication of Officers of the Diocesan Council.  Afternoon tea was served before everyone went their separate ways following a very enjoyable and “fun” conference.
